Protection and support of breastfeeding in emergencies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an emergency, crisis situation, pregnant women and mothers of infants and young children experience tremendous stress due to uncertainty and fear for their own and their babies’ health. Although it is known that breastfeeding is the safest and best form of feeding children in such situations, not all mothers choose to do so. Their mental state and the opportunities provided by support organizations and medical facilities have a significant impact on whether they decide to start or continue breastfeeding. In the next webinar in the series “Supporting Mothers in Child Feeding in Crisis,” Professor Agnela Giusti and Dr. Magdalena Nehring-Gugulska, M.D., will not only present the barriers and problems faced by mothers in crisis, but will also outline clear and transparent principles on how to support and encourage exclusive breastfeeding<\/span>.<\/p>\n

She has a BSc in Midwifery, a MSc in Adult Education, a DU in Community and Public Health and a PhD in Human and environmental health promotion. She is Professor of Nursing, Midwifery, Health Promotion and Public Health. She has been working for over a decade in international Primary Health Care programs in Low Income Countries. Her areas of expertise are: qualitative and mixed-methods research, epidemiology, programs planning and evaluation, NCDs prevention and health promotion, participatory methods at community level, training intervention. Since 2007, she has been the director of a non-public educational institution – the Center for Lactation Science (CNoL) and president of the Creative Women’s Foundation. In 2017, she was awarded the Chamber of Medicine’s highest honor Laudabilis (Worthy of Recognition) for lifetime achievement. A long-time lecturer, she is passionate about postgraduate education and has co-developed many educational programs. She has developed, among others, %22Standard of lactation consultation%22, %22Standards of lactation management%22, %22Breast inflammation treatment protocol%22. Co-author of the first textbook for lactation professionals entitled. %22Breastfeeding in theory and practice%22 published by Practical Medicine in 2012 and 2017. Together with the CNoL team, she created the Polish CDL certificate.
